DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width="2/3"][vc_column_text]Phoenix52 Commun
ity Arts was led Kerry Russell\, Amy Peck and Sally Reay\, local artists a
nd makers who were based at and supported by In Bristol Studios.  They or
ganised and delivered a range of creative opportunities and activities in
the community from 2009-2017.\n\nCollaborating\, where possible\, with oth
 er local artists\, organisations\, schools\, groups\, residents and busine
sses they provided high quality creative workshops and celebratory events
that brought the community together to celebrate local creativity in all i
ts forms within their neighbourhood.\n\nBetween 2010 and 2016 Phoenix52 de
livered over ten community festivals\, 50 creative workshops for local chi
ldren and their parents and carers teaching new skills and encouraging cre
ativity. They took over two empty shops and turned them into pop-up galler
ies to promote local artists and another empty shop that they transformed
into a pop-up community arts centre\, with an artist in residence scheme a

18 In Bristol Studio hosted and organsied the 'Festival of Making'\, a mul
ti-disciplinary open studio event celebrating the creativity of our resid
ents and the local community.\n\nThe Festival was FREE to enter and there
were taster workshops so local residents could try something new.\n\nFor f
amilies there were lots of free creative play: pavement chalks\, giant bui
lding blocks\, den building and collaborative weaving projects to get invo
lved in. There was also a drop in tote bag illustration workshop.\n\nThe t
heme for this hands on open studio event was 'COTTON' inspired by the orig
inal use of our studio building\, and its history as part of the Great Wes
tern Cotton Factory. Studio members responded to this theme in a multitude
  of ways\, exploring history\, tools\, objects\, people and processes.\n\n
The studio was filled with a showcase of new work by our varied and talent
ed artist and maker residents.\n\nYou can view photos from the festival vi
a this YouTube showreel:\n\nhttps://youtu.be/YANgzoRSf0Y\n\nAmong the work
on display were three PARTICIPATE commissions\, facilitated by studio mem
bers working with groups from our local community. These were also support
ed by Pangea Sculpture Centre.\n\nWe also had eight COLLABORATE commission
s - work made especially for the event by studio members combining their s
kills and practices to work together.  We encouraged our artists to work
outside of their normal practice\, to share skills\, and to be as experim
ental as they like!\n\nAll the commissions for new work and participatory
workshops were funded via an Arts Council England Project Grant.  This
incredible organisation makes an unrivalled contribution towards creative
professional development\, whilst encouraging wider involvement in\, and a
ppreciation of the Arts.\n\nOur artists were also supported by the Up Our
Street Endowment Fund\, a grant for residents and groups helping deliver p

\nAs part of this project In Bristol Studio produced a Participate Toolkit
which was designed to share best practice and experience gained during th
e festival.\n\nMany Thanks to Ben Pryor and Bristol Arts Monster \n\n\n\n

Studio Meraki to support and inspire our local community with the creatio

delivered 4000 art kits that reached around 12000 children and young peop

done in two 10 week phases\, with 200 art kits going out each week with th

that our art kits were given out to those families most in need\, with man

Primary School\, our vision is of a dynamic\, engaged and thriving commun

Community Trust\nWe provide people of all ages with places and ways to con

2001-7.\nI work both nationally and internationally creating carnival

en I work on a community level it is done through the workshop process\, o

of being at the heart of communities as they celebrate. One of the most s
pecial celebrations involved building a 40ft Dragon Lantern in the village
of Dinder near Wells in Somerset to celebrate their dragon festival which
happens every 50 years. In 2011 the work of Gynormous Rawkus culminated i

creativity is a language that enables the expression of thought and emotio

work as an arts facilitator.\nI have been involved with a variety of proje

the outside world and a fascination for the workings of the human brain.
Horticulture often feeds into my practice through the use of natural objec

important part of the process: the setup. We won’t be rushing to finish

with food\, you can simply leave off the brass - urushi lacquer works well
